Share your knowledge – become a volunteer in the Refugee Integration Center

Apply now to become a volunteer in the Refugee Integration Center for the next three months – February 13 to May 13!

As you know, Caritas Sofia and CVS – Bulgaria currently organize a volunteer project with the State Agency for Refugees (SAR). Starting in November and continuing into January 25 volunteers have been helping children and teenagers – from 2 to 17 years old – to adapt more easily into Bulgarian society. This includes: morning sessions (9 am to 1 pm) working with toddlers, with an emphasis on entertaining activities and learning through play. Afternoon sessions (2 to 4 pm) are dedicated to tutoring students. At that time, our volunteers help the children with their lessons and assist them in preparing their homework. Generally, the idea is to assist the full-time Bulgarian language teacher who is working at the integration center by improving the student-teacher ratio, as well as improve the socialization and integration of all the children involved by providing more contact with Bulgarians from outside of the center.

Starting in mid-February, we will begin the second phase of our activities in the Refugee Integration Center. In line with this, we are looking for new volunteers. We’re happy to say that a good portion of our current volunteers have showed their desire to extend their volunteer service another 3 months as well, who we hope you’ll join. Volunteers come to the center according to their availability, generally once a week for three months. The project coordinators will provide training focusing on work with children and refugees, and volunteers will have the opportunity for observation of current activities, so as to get accustomed to the specific demands of the position.
