Another great news from the cinema world! From 19th till 25th February we will have the wonderful opportunity to enjoy the a colorful panorama оf the films honored with the Sofia City Award.

Production company Adela Media, with the financial support from Sofia municipality and the media partnership of BNT, is organizing Panorama of the films honored with the Sofia City Award.

The screenings of all the 15 movies which were awarded from 2002 till today will make these incredible films accessible to a wide audience and the society. In this way an extremely important event will be promoted as the annual award of the Sofia City Award for brilliant achievements in the field of cinema art.

Except the high artistic qualities and cultural message, the honored movies are also bringing to the attention of the audience the social problems and processes, which urged the authors to create them. At the same time, these movies are a kind of reflection of the dynamic and complicated period of our latest history, between 2000 and 2017. The panorama is an attempt for a different view on the things happening in Bulgaria – not through the facts, statistics or news emissions, but through the eyes of the artists.

A detailed program you can find here:

FestList_ENG_FestList_ENG-1

FestList_ENG_FestList_ENG-2

After the screenings, in a discussion with famous cinema critics, the public will have the opportunity to share their impressions and to meet the authors of the films.

The movies will be screened from 19th till 25th February at The Red House Centre for Culture and Debate. Free entrance.

We will be waiting for you!

The training course is the main activity of the Small Steps project aiming at increasing the capacity of 10 European organisations in becoming actors of change in their local environment and working more effectively and actively for a more inclusive and prejudice-free Europe.

With this TC, we intend to provide you – youth workers, leaders, and educators – with knowledge and skills essential to inform and run educational activities in your local communities and societies on the topics of stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination, and to react to discriminatory practices – both as an individual and as an organisation. One of the methods we will focus on is the Human Library.

_MG_3184

The training programme includes elements of both theory (what is discrimination, how to react to it), direct encounter with minorities (Human Library event), practice (practising intervention in situations of discrimination both as an individual and an organisation), and action planning (small-scale activities that you can do in order to prevent the growth of xenophobia and discrimination).

For whom?

The event will gather 28 participants from 9 European countries – activists and educators from Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. We believe that the TC will increase your self-confidence, make your work more efficient, and help you have a greater impact on the surrounding society and reality!

As the ideal participant you should:
– be interested in antidiscrimination issue and have some knowledge on this topic;
– be willing to take part in the project follow-up: organisation of a Human Library in your home country;
– come from one of the 9 above-mentioned project countries;
– be able to communicate well and work in English;
– with minimum age 18 (no maximum age);
– attend the whole course duration (there is no possibility to make exceptions).

We especially warmly welcome representatives of minority groups.

When:

The training will last 7 days. Arrival is foreseen on Thursday, 12th April 2018 before 3 p.m. Departure is on Wednesday, 18th April 2018 after 1 p.m.

Where?

The training will be held in Antwerp, Belgium – a charming city with a rich history. Participants will be accommodated in a comfortable and modern Hopper hostel close to the centre of Antwerp. Please note that the living conditions will be quite simple, and the rooms will be shared by 4-8 people.

Methods:

The working methods used will base on the principles of adult learning, creating a stress-free and motivating environment where the human brain has a full capacity to learn. You will often work in smaller groups in order to achieve best results. All the methods will encourage active participation, creativity, initiative, and responsibility for one’s own learning process.

Certificates:

You will be awarded with a training completion certificate, issued by Service Civil International, as well as with Youthpass certificate.

451-Service Civil International SCI

Financial conditions:

The food and accommodation of the participants will be fully covered. Reimbursement of the travel tickets will be 100% up to the maximum amounts indicated in the rules of the Erasmus+ programme after the receipt of original documents. Maximum travel reimbursement amounts: 100-499 km = 180 euro, 500-1999 km = 275 euro. We encourage you to use environmentally friendly transport (bus, train, car sharing) when possible.

The idea for the project “Volume UP!” was created based on the so far success of the previous project Urban life and also according to the needs of young people in our local environment, which is increasingly seeing the decline of urban culture. Urban culture is the culture of cities. It could be described as a large number of very different people in a very limited space – most of them don’t know each other.

logo_bmbThe Balkan Myth Buster is project financed by Erasmus+ program, which has been implemented by VCV Serbia and GAIA Kosovo in 2016-2017. The project reunites 8 peace organizations from Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Germany and Croatia: 24 participants from all of these countries met first in November 2016 in Tavankut, Serbia on a training course, focused on a research on myths and its impact on the formation of identities and for the Training Course. In March 2017 a youth exchange as the second activity took place in Velika Hoca e Madhe, where 30 young participants reunited for ten days. And then in September 2017 a second youth exchange happened in Trstenik, Serbia, dedicated to the creation of a new mythology and positive stories for the future.

As a follow-up of the project it has been decided to open a web page with the intent to collect different memories and testimonies from the Balkan countries, aiming to show the region from a different point of view.

The records presented would show moment of integration, cooperation and kindness among the citizens of the different Balkan countries, we are looking for stories that could deconstruct the concept of group identity bonded with a given nation; these would finally allow us to go beyond the rhetoric of single stories which is the kind of narratives that tells only one side of the story and contribute to narrow minds and views, fostering stereotypes and prejudices.

Among the Balkan region there are thousands of stories that would serve perfectly the goal. They just need to be told!

If you have a story that you think is suitable and is worth to be shared, you are more than welcomed to visit the blog Mything Point and send your masterpiece at the following email address office@volotiraj.rs

The story does not need to be long and elaborate, the more you go straight to the point the more it will be effective!

We can’t wait to hear from you!

The time for a festival has come! It’s name is No More War /26, 27 и 28 January/ and is a CVS-Bulgaria initiative in the framework of SCI International PATH project. The Festival’s main focus is on peace in its micro and macro dimensions while the accent is placed on the lessons learned from history.

22853101_1588185887916689_5578867002560053657_n

Aims:

The main objective is to start up a process of personal growth through sharing a collective experience. The themes we have chosen for this exchange are social inclusion, active citizenship which strengthens the spirit of initiative of young people, their creativity and their entrepreneurship, solidarity and their ability to collaborate with and beyond the differences

By managing and sharing the path, laboratory activities, games of knowledge focused on the methodology of non formal education, the exchange “There is a crack in everything: that’s where the light comes: moments of resilience”, is a real simulation of active citizenship in order to provide participants with new tools useful to cope with certain aspects of their discomfort. The simulation is a true “active laboratory of needs”. Within the shape of an educational path the young will give their own creative and innovative contribution at everyday activities. A further objective is to ensure that the gap of difference and resistance to the new and different is less deep, to get to enable new models of inclusion, going against the logic racist, sexist and xenophobic.

Since 2014 the countries of the European Union face intensified inflows of asylum seekers with the number of asylum claims coming up to nearly 1,4 million in 2015, over 1,2 million in 2016 and above 500 000 between January and October 2017. The considerable inflow of forced migrants coming predominantly from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq called for reconsideration of the structures and functionalities of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and for expansion and improvement of the reception and integration systems across all member states.

The provision of relevant information and orientation becomes key component in the process of reception and integration of beneficiaries of international protection. This was the topic put at the centre of the training seminar “Facilitating the Integration of Beneficiaries of International Protection by Provision of Orientation and Information”, organized by the Centre for the Study of Democracy in Sofia between 29 November and 1 December 2017.

The seminar gathered professionals in the refugee reception and support field from Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Malta and Spain who discussed possibilities to transfer, adapt or invent approaches and tools in the provision of orientation and information support to beneficiaries of international protection. The training was provided by professionals from Italy and Spain working at refugee support organisations with a mandate to implement government run reception and integration programs in the two countries.

Valentina Fabbri and Sebastiana Masuri from the Italian Cooperative Programma INTEGRA conducted two training sessions the one dealing with practical overview of the methods and mechanisms for integration of refugees in Italy and the other with the design and implementation of practical tools for job orientation. The sessions were built along the discussion of case studies and the roles and functions of the assistance teams working with them.

Karina Zubiaga and Susanna Nicolas from the Catalan Commission for Assistance of Refugees (CCAR) conducted two more training sessions. The first one provided practical information on the three-stage Spanish program for reception and integration of refugees which involves tools for support of up to 18 months per beneficiary. The second session presented concrete action tools conceptualized around group work to support refugees in the process of language acquisition, job orientation and overall adjustment and adaptation to the Spanish society.

In the last day, December 1st, participants from Bulgaria, Greece and Malta presented concepts for the development of training modules to facilitate the orientation and integration of beneficiaries of international protection in each of the three countries. The concepts were presented respectively by Rosa Vasilaki from ELIAMEP and Dilara Demir from MELISSA Network in Greece, Mila Mancheva from CSD in Bulgaria and Marcella Pisotti from People for Change Foundation in Malta. In the discussion that followed participants agreed that the modules should be directed at social workers so as to aid their work with beneficiaries of international protection and thus support the enhancement of the assistance and integration systems in the three member states. Some of the main topics to be included in the mdules stressed by the presenter included: cultural orientation, civic education, job orientation, women’s rights, health and the role of women in European societies, access to justice and basic services including inter-cultural competences.
